Everyday Mistakes is Mattias Malm’s ”one man project” but that doesn’t mean he does everything by himself. He is however meticulous about his sound and of course not surprising since he is inspired as much by music producers (Joe Meek, Jack Nitzsche, Martin Hannett, Brian Wilson, Phil Spector) and their sound as by other music/musicians. The result is a great debut album called ”Obscure Lanes” which boasts the best eccentric and dark pop you have heard in a while. Artists like Scott Walker, Chris Isaak, 16 Horsepower & Woven Hand, The Smiths and Joy Division comes to mind but also Ennio Morricones and John Barrys soundtracks to spaghetti westerns and agent films. A new Swedish crooner is born and he will get a lot of attention in the future, which he deserves.
